Peter S. Lynch | 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award
Peter Lynch is considered one of the most successful money managers in Wall Street history. He ran Fidelity's Magellan Fund from May 1977 to May 1990. During his tenure, an investment of $1,000 in the fund starting in 1977 was worth $28,000 by the time he stepped down in 1990. For the 13 years he ran the fund, it was #1 in the world. By 1983 Magellan was the largest fund, and for seven years after Lynch managed it, Magellan outperformed all other mutual funds. One out of every hundred Americans shared in these results.
Mr. Lynch authored three books—One Up on Wall Street, Beating the Street and Learn to Earn—which are some of the most successful books ever written about the stock market and investing. They have been translated to over 25 languages and continue to be read all over the world.
He stopped running the Magellan Fund in 1990 to devote more time to non-profit work and to spend more with his wife, Carolyn, and three daughters. Today, Mr. Lynch serves on several boards of charities and as president of the family’s Lynch Foundation. For over 35 years, he has helped raise scholarships for needy inner city students who attend Boston’s Catholic schools. Through the Building Minds Scholarship Fund, Mr. Lynch has helped raise more than $365 million, with $7 million in partial scholarships being awarded to students every year.
Mr. Lynch continues to serve as an advisory board member for the Fidelity Funds and is vice chairman of Fidelity Management & Research Company. He enjoys working with new analysts at Fidelity, meeting with them several times throughout the year.
